I was inspired by *crookedtrees 's rather disturbing My Little Pony artwork, and... well, I couldn't help but do my own take on ponies with dark themes. I started with this pony - the one that represents me. Her name is Artbeat and she's an artist pony with rainbow hair. However, in this picture she's "drawn" herself into a tangled mess and is just plain miserable.
I'm going to be doing many more of these "Creepy Ponies." I've already drawn Creepy Ponies for all of my friends who have original character ponies (I'll be posting those later) and I've started on drawing the canon ponies as Creepy Ponies. The idea is that the "creepy" factor is somehow related to the pony's Cutie Mark. As you can see here, Artbeat's Cutie Mark is a pencil in a heart. Following the concept, the pencil's red lines have tied her up and she's got her arms crossed over her heart, symbolizing her Cutie Mark. Some of these will be vague, some more obvious... others just plain weird.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this and I hope you'll stick around to see more. (: They'll all be uploaded to my Creepy Pony gallery: [link]
My first thought when I saw this was the old Japanese believe of the red line of fate, which connects two people who are meant for each other. The fact that this pegasus's wings are heavily tangled in the red string makes this scene seem extremely tragic to me. Pining for love, warmth, and affection, fate has conspired against her, not only leaving her unbound to one who could make her happy, but crippling her with the very same string, leaving her unable to soar to those heavenly heights that, maybe, could give her some joy. Or maybe, seeing how there's a red pencil beside her, this condition is self-inflicted, crippling herself out of ignorance, accident, or perhaps just spite, and fate has nothing to do with her unhappiness.
And yet, regardless of the origin of her current circumstances, despite being tormented by her longing, she has grown to accept her loneliness and eternal melancholy.
I have to say, as a kicking off point this is creepy enough on it's own. Then the pictures just got so much..... more. I didn't want to fill your comment board with every one that I liked. But I adore these for some strange and twisted reason. And typically I hate the gore style. But somehow you took it somewhere else and it's alright. These are fantastically detailed, they're wonderfully drawn and absolutely phenomenally thought out. I'm not sure if I look forward to it, but if there's more, I'm going to be checking them out.
